Clan Moulder Contingent and a bit of a ramble

After pulling an 8 hour session at the table til 3am may I present; Clan Scourge's Moulder Contingent
This is all I've got for now, hoping to pick up more in the future and hopefully some rat swarms. Close ups:
I think I may actually be getting the hang of 'real' looking stone/basing. If u look closely at the two most recent additions; the two brown fellows front rank I think their stone work looks much better than the others. Or maybe I'm crazy.
I've also noticed that black edging really makes highlights pop, which is something that I don't like, I'm much more into subtle highlights, like these:
*this is not my work, it is that of master Sully over at http://www.oldenhammer.com/?m=1
Which is an awesome blog which u should check out if u haven't already.
My future armies will be either grey or brown edged but I'm too far committed to change now and I'm not re-edging 160 miniatures.
Wow, I'm not tooting my own horn but holy shit I've never painted an army of this size before and I've still got 30 or so more to go for my 2,000 point list! Anyway I'm rambling.
The bases aren't finished, reason being I need to start varnishing my models as they will be (hopefully) making many travels to further engage Crapfang's Backwood Bandits!
I've also heard that if u spray varnish over flock/tufts it ruins them and after shelling out as much as I have on them I am loathe to replace them.
So, from now on paint to completion, varnish then flock.
I've always shunned varnishing because I've found it detracts from the look of finished figures, but I need a portable army that doesn't get chipped to shit so if anyone wants to recommend a matte finish spray and brush on please comment and let me know what you think of the stone work/paint jobs.
Thanks for stopping by!

Today's progress

I won't be back to the paint table for a couple days but I am quite pleased with myself and the progress I've made on the bases of my last remaining rat ogres, I'm sure you can't see jack shit but when theyre all flocked and dry brushed they look the shit I think.
And the finished family awaiting them
I'll also have 11 giant rats done but, they're mounted on 20mm bases. I don't think it's that big of a deal, not as though they're game changing or anything.
So stay tuned I may be able to sneak in some brush time on Monday night. Just don't tell She Who Must Be Obeyed!

Clan Scourge goes Moulder

After a very enjoyable game last weekend I came to realize... I don't really like this army. In fact, the only reason I chose the Skaven in the first place was a steal off ebay for some rat ogres. Well, I'm going to take more clan Moulder troops, many many more in fact, the first steps towards completion be;
More beastmasters!
Now I know the army book say a max of 8 animal handlers, but what can I say sometimes Mr stillman gets things wrong. Look forward to many more rat ogres, chaos hounds and giant rats here to come.

Clan Scourge vs Crapfang's Backwood Bandits

It's rare these days to find a new Oldhammer opponent, an even rarer thing is to find an opponent who is just as enthusiastic about your love of the game, the meta game and it's rich history/background.
My pregame rules review at the pub

An exceptionally rare thing is to find an opponent who emerses themselves into their painting and modelling with such fervour that upon seeing his finished projects you're immediately convinced he's a heavy metal painter part time.
The best painted wolf riders I've ever seen taken horribly badly by me!

Well, I count myself so incredibly lucky to have met Sully; a genuinely nice guy, the kind of guy who just wants to play WH3 and doesn't give a shit if he wins. And he drinks beer!
The game had some particularly funny moments. Sullys giant showed up drunk, and refused to move. To make matters worse I cast cause panic and, well, he was off the table by the end of turn 2. I felt terrible, I brought an army list that was far too competitive, because my regular opponent loves to win games and that's what I've had to do to even have a chance. It's a habit I'll be all to happy to break.
Another highlight was my Warpfire thrower exploding on a d20 roll of 20 killing 4 of his friends in the process!
For the first time ever my rat ogres survived a game and actually made it across the table! Fantastic!
It's also the first game I've used jezzailachis and I must say they are fantastic (sorry Sully) two man cannons are great!
So all in all it was a fantastic experience that I hope to repeat very soon. Nothing is better than playing a game with a super cool chilled out guy, with beautifully painted armies (well not mine) with lush terrain and a huge variety of it!
In closing, get on the oldhammer forum meet new people, and play them, you might just have the best game of your life!
Oh and check out Sullys elite standard bearer
Wonderful motivation could it be a war banner boosting the horny orcs onwards? Doom banner sending opponents reeling at the sight of her monsterous tits?
Time will tell!
Below is my overpowered army list for a casual game. I freely admit it.

The state of Clan Scourge

Shields done! Finally! Batch painting 64 shields really sucks! I've also (mainly) finished my 2nd Warpfire thrower
The idea into have 4 for the army and to have them all match their 'host' units. #2 is to go with my plague monks.
I've also finished my 2k general:
Verminlord Xerxes. I was so happy to get my mitts on this model, perhaps I rushed to get him painted, but he turned out ok. I've tried to build the bases up on my heroes so they are more easily recognize able on the tabletop.
So, with all of this done I'm left only with
10 gutter runners and 20 black skaven with 4 animal handlers. I can't wait to see them done!
I've also joined:
http://ataleofseveralgamers.blogspot.ca/?m=1
Where I'll be documenting the creation of my skaven allies but who will they be?
Well I'm running a vote over there so head over and leave a comment dark elves or chaos. It's up to you!
