Just a quick post today, 15 black skaven finished, 5 to go. As much as I dislike the shock elites in 3rd edition, I must say it has been enjoyable painting up halberds.
The front rank looks especially menacing.
I've only managed to get 2 more of them done. I could say I put plastic skaven in here to save lead figs,
They hold washes so nicely, they also gave me the chance to paint red again. Can't lie, I love painting red and have been known to highlight it all the way up to yellow/white lol.
Well, ca c'est fini for today, I'm quite embarrassed at the length of time this unit has taken. For that reason I'm going to continue with the skaven until the end of May, finish a little reward project, and then change gears.
Im not bragging here but I own a ton of unpainted lead;
at least 3000 points of Chaos Regiments,
about 2,000 points in gobbos, orcs and their assorted accoutrements.
I also desperately want to get my eldar pirates (The Void Dragons, Eldritch Raiders sounds terrible!) started and finished, and of course my beloved Alpha Legion, coolest of all known chapters đŸ˜€redone.
For all these reasons and more I have to move on. Anyway happy weekend!
yeah, with the length of time you have spent on this single unit, it really sounds like you are starting to suffer a burnout, good idea on starting another project instead.
ReplyDeleteThanks DR!
DeleteI used to think having a skaven army in 3rd edition was fairly elite. That's not the case. It seems a lot of oldhammerers have the same mindset. I can't wait til June first, finish my reward project, change the blog wallpaper and move the fuck on.
They look great man.
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of eldar pirates RT models all awaiting paint at the moment - I hope to see yours soon ;)

I'll get round to the Void Dragons at some point but I think I'm going to stay in the fantasy realm for awhile. My opponents are mainly in that space as well. Someday though il have them finished.
DeleteWhatever you choose I'm looking forward to seeing it. It will be good to see the Skaven done as well :)

The unit is shaping up nicely! Is there any chance you might bring them down to the Oldhammer in the New World event this coming august? I'd love to have a game!
ReplyDeleteCheers mr blue!
DeleteI'm considering heading down for the weekend, and I'd love a game really. The problem may lie in transporting the horde down but I'm sure I can give up my luggage in favour of figs.
That is exciting news! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further convince you to attend!
DeleteI love stomping Rats almost as much as pansy elves! muwahahaha...:)
I completely agree with you that red is a lot of fun to paint. It's also hard to do well. Which is another reason why you should be pleased with your progress on this unit.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see you started on the Eldar, because it sounds like you've got an exceptionally interesting collection. How do you think you'll paint them? With the traditional yellow helmets? The sky is really the limit with Eldar.
Cheers Sully,
DeleteYes I'm going to opt for the classic yellow helmet with tigerstriping. On characters though I plan to paint them black with a lightning effect, if I can manage it.
I've got every variant of dreadnought as well which will be a lot of fun as well, no zoats though, they go for ridiculous coin on eBay.
Awesome! You're almost there!
