Clan Scourge vs Crapfang's Backwood Bandits

It's rare these days to find a new Oldhammer opponent, an even rarer thing is to find an opponent who is just as enthusiastic about your love of the game, the meta game and it's rich history/background.
My pregame rules review at the pub

An exceptionally rare thing is to find an opponent who emerses themselves into their painting and modelling with such fervour that upon seeing his finished projects you're immediately convinced he's a heavy metal painter part time.
The best painted wolf riders I've ever seen taken horribly badly by me!

Well, I count myself so incredibly lucky to have met Sully; a genuinely nice guy, the kind of guy who just wants to play WH3 and doesn't give a shit if he wins. And he drinks beer!
The game had some particularly funny moments. Sullys giant showed up drunk, and refused to move. To make matters worse I cast cause panic and, well, he was off the table by the end of turn 2. I felt terrible, I brought an army list that was far too competitive, because my regular opponent loves to win games and that's what I've had to do to even have a chance. It's a habit I'll be all to happy to break.
Another highlight was my Warpfire thrower exploding on a d20 roll of 20 killing 4 of his friends in the process!
For the first time ever my rat ogres survived a game and actually made it across the table! Fantastic!
It's also the first game I've used jezzailachis and I must say they are fantastic (sorry Sully) two man cannons are great!
So all in all it was a fantastic experience that I hope to repeat very soon. Nothing is better than playing a game with a super cool chilled out guy, with beautifully painted armies (well not mine) with lush terrain and a huge variety of it!
In closing, get on the oldhammer forum meet new people, and play them, you might just have the best game of your life!
Oh and check out Sullys elite standard bearer
Wonderful motivation could it be a war banner boosting the horny orcs onwards? Doom banner sending opponents reeling at the sight of her monsterous tits?
Time will tell!
Below is my overpowered army list for a casual game. I freely admit it.

  1. As the one at the business end of your army list, I can say that it wasn't over-powered at all. It was just well-designed and effective. It was still balanced, and had lot of Skaveny character. It's not like you came with an Earth Elemental and a pack of two-headed chaos hounds.

I think the Jezzachalis were the MVP. Up until we played, I never understood this unit or why they seemed to cost so many points in Warhammer Armies. But now I understand that they're actually a small cannon, and are probably a bargain at 39 points each (although at that price, they are comparable to other cannon units, which are probably also under-priced). In any case, those Jezzachalis took a withering toll on my army. Chalk another one up for Clan Skyre.

It was a pleasure playing with you - looking forward to the next game!

    1. Yes sully wel gotta get another game in soon! Had such a great time. Next time though let's do 1500 an keep those jezzailachis down to a pair.

  2. Excellent! Yes, Jezzails are undeniable game winners but be careful because now Sulley knows I think you may start to lose them fairly quickly in games, although as a fellow Skaven player I'm not about to point out the best method for achieving this lol!!!!!

    1. That's very solid of u my verminous compatriot although I only do have the pair only, not quite willing to flesh out $40 for them just yet

    2. Aye, the cost is very prohibitive, I was very lucky to have picked up my gun line good few years back, I even found a team in a box the other day, unpainted, not so useful for third where I already have more than twice my allowance but for later editions it's dead useful. All together now: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

    1. Ah mr blue you're preaching to the choir. I don't know how far out you are but that would be great. Of course we will bring the beer.... And a smack down! Lol

  4. Sounds like a right laugh. Speaking of which, Sully's banner made me literally laugh out loud. That sort of character is what it's all about!

  5. Yes I found it humorous as well, but his ain't jobs were no joke, absolutely breath taking. U never see armies painted to that standard without the owner being a complete psychopath shut in that is. Which sully most certainly isn't

  6. It made me laugh out loud to be described as *not* being a "complete psychopath shut in". That's just the sort of thing you hope to see written on your report card. It might surprise a couple of my ex-girlfriends.
Besides the great fun of playing, I also learned a lot of painting tips and techniques from 24_Cigs, who's got a great deal of painting know-how (as if you couldn't tell from his Skaven). It just goes to show that now matter how great these here Blogs are, it's always better to get in person and shoot the bull.

    1. Too kind sully. I must get that orc skin tone recipe from you; I've. 20 rogue trader space orks to paint and they would look dynamite in your scheme. Must talk soon.

  7. Hey, just stumbled upon your game right now - great to see some 3rd ed. Warhammer being played and documented in Canada!! Too bad you guys are on the other side of the country, otherwise I'd join you. And 24 Cigs, I think you put a fair list together that reflected all your work that you have put in on your great looking Skaven force. Anyway, am looking forward to seeing/reading your next battlereport!

  8. Cheers private, I'm hoping for many more games with my skaven. It's very hard though to find opponents and even harder to find those who just want to win and could care less about how much fun their opponent is having. In future I plan on writing up battle reports narratively in before and after scripts with lots more photos. I've always been a fan of writing history/background of my armies, you can see that my characters simply had names before but after a win Festerlice will further be known as the Defiler while Xerxes became 20th level and became the Cunning. Just my little way of adding some flavour to my games.
